Name of business: Frantz Garden Center

Type of business: Nursery

Location: 12879 Riverview Rd., Hickman

Hours of operation: Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

History of business: A family’s love for gardening has evolved into one of the most successful nurseries in Stanislaus County.

The Frantz family began their wholesale nursery in 1979 with only 1.5 acres of land on Hickman Road. Thirty years later, Frantz Nursery has grown to over 350 acres operated by second generation owners Michael and Keith Frantz.

“In 2008, we developed a 5 acre piece of land at the corner of Riverview and Hickman Road and built a little store,” stated the Frantz brothers. “We take plants directly from our wholesale fields, and have the complete lineup available for the general public to shop. With almost 5 acres of inventory, we have lots of options for customers to look at.”

Frantz also carries a large selection of shade trees, annual and perennial plants.

“The beauty about this garden center is that all of our products are grown locally,” said FCH manager Malaquias Vega.

Frantz Garden Center also carries items such as sod, bulk landscape materials, compost, sand and bark.

Business specialty: Frantz Garden Center is a full service retail nursery that offers fresh plants at low prices.

“We try to provide all the items that customers need for their planting needs in the convenience of one location,” said Vega. “You will find everything you need here. We take plants daily for wholesale fields and have the complete lineup available for the general public to shop.”

Frantz also sells field-grown olives and fruit trees.
