The intersection of Canal Street and Geer Road in Turlock was partly closed down on Saturday but there was no accident or street fair in sight. Rather, it was the Capital Insurance Group’s Community Safety Saturday hosted by local business GDI Insurance.

Community Safety Saturday was developed by CIG Insurance in 2010, precipitated by a grandmother’s concern that her car seat was not installed properly. Since its founding, CIG Insurance has partnered with local insurance agencies to equip families with necessary information to keep their loved ones safe. From child identification and finger printing services by the KlassKids Foundation to car seat safety checks by the California Highway Patrol, the Community Safety Saturday event educated locals on the importance of implementing safety measures.

This year’s Community Safety Saturday event allowed attendees to interface with local first responders, enjoy free games and food, and learn about the preventable statistics of drunk driving through a Crash Car Exhibit from the Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization.
