A 40-year-old woman was killed in a solo vehicle rollover collision Wednesday, the Turlock Police Department reported. The collision also claimed the life of the woman’s two dogs.

The deceased was identified by the Turlock Police Department as Brandi Kane, 40, of Turlock.

The deceased was identified by the Turlock Police Department as Brandi Kane, 40, of Turlock.

Around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Kane was driving a Hyundai Tucson westbound in the 4200 block of West Linwood Avenue approaching the intersection with S. Washington Street. For a reason that is still unknown at this point, the vehicle was involved in a rollover crash and subsequently caught fire, according to the police department.

As emergency personnel were responding to the scene they were told that Kane had gotten herself out of the vehicle and did not sustain any burns. She had, however, suffered extensive injuries from the crash and was taken to an area hospital by air ambulance, the Turlock Fire Department reported.

Kane lost consciousness at the hospital and died from her injuries, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

Two dogs were riding inside the vehicle with Kane when the collision occurred. One dog died in the collision and the second was humanly euthanized due to injuries directly resulting from the collision, Parmley said.

Friends of Kane said she had a third dog who was likely in the vehicle and may have run from the crash site. It is a pitbull that goes by the name of Pup.

Parmley said they were aware of the third dog, but no witnesses saw it running away and there were no other remains in the vehicle.

Kane had experienced homelessness in the past and became a grassroots advocate for her friends when Stanislaus County and later the City of Turlock were moving them from campsites.

The Turlock Police Department is in the early stages of investigating this collision and it is unknown if speed, alcohol, or drugs were a factor.

The roadway was closed for just under two hours while officers investigated this incident.
