After family and friends couldn’t stop asking Darren Mountain for fashion advice, he decided to take his style knowledge and put it to good use by opening his own men’s clothing store, Sewn Up Clothing. His brothers wanted tips on their prom tuxedos, while close friends always asked for Mountain’s opinion on their outfits.

“I felt like I had enough style to give,” said Mountain. “I thought that I should apply it to something bigger – the store – instead of just telling them what to wear.”

Mountain describes Sewn Up Clothing as the “Coachella of clothing stores.” Coachella, an annual music and arts festival, often provides music lovers with a wide variety to choose from, including rock, indie, hip hop and electric music. Sewn Up Clothing caters to a wide demographic as well, with countless styles and options hanging on the racks.

“I have something for everybody, in all aspects,” said Mountain. “You can be hipster, conservative, country, rock or urban. They all can be in here and find something that they would like.”

Mountain wanted to create a shop that not only has a wide selection, but also carries high-quality products that are eye-catching. With brands like LRG, Vans, Primitive Apparel and Spy Optic, Sewn Up Clothing is a one-stop shop that has an outfit for every occasion.

“Our generation has so much to offer when it comes to music, clothes and fashion,” said Mountain. “It all ties in together, and I feel like I have a good grasp on that and have applied it to the store. You don’t have to drive to the mall to find good stuff. Turlock’s got it right here.”

Sewn Up Clothing’s soft opening was Monday, but the store will hold a grand opening celebration on May 14. An open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., complete with a DJ and free taco truck tacos for those who purchase clothing.
