Stanislaus County heroes recognized by Red Cross

The Capital Region Chapter of the American Red Cross - which includes Stanislaus County - will host a celebration to honor individuals in the community who have taken action in a time of crisis to help others and show extraordinary human compassion.
This celebration, the 5th annual Heroes Breakfast, will be held today at the DoubleTree Hotel in Modesto.
This year's heroes are:
Animal Hero: Charles Jones and K-9 Moonshine
Education Hero: Eric Meneses
Good Samaritan Adult Hero: Louis Martinez
Good Samaritan Senior Hero: Phil Schmitt
Good Samaritan Youth Hero: Taylor Beckwith
Law Enforcement Heroes: Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department Sergeant John Walker and Deputy Jesse Grogan
Medical and Citizen Response Team Heroes: Dr. Danielle Myers and Robert Root
Military Hero: Army Specialist Zachariah Vershay
Professional Rescuer Hero: Troy Hawkins
Workplace Heroes: Jason Hardy and Max Sherwood
Bette Belle Smith Spirit of the Red Cross Hero: Reverend Johnny Montalvo
Stanislaus County Hero of the Year: Mandy Crocker, RN
