A 15-year-old Hughson boy suffered major injuries when his all terrain vehicle was struck by a sport utility vehicle.
The 15-year-old, identified by the California Highway Patrol as Alex Chavolla, was taken by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center with severe injuries from the collision on Dec. 16.
Chavolla was driving a Suzuki ATV 4-Wheel eastbound on Grayson Road around 2:30 p.m. Dec. 16. The CHP’s investigation revealed Chavolla ran the posted stop sign at the intersection of Grayson and Gratton roads.
The teenager was hit by a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder that was traveling southbound on Grayson Road. The driver of the Pathfinder, Martha Tabira, 34, of Denair, hit her brakes in an effort to avoid hitting Chavolla but was unsuccessful.
The CHP stated Chavolla was ejected off the ATV into an orchard. It is unknown if Chavolla was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Tabira was uninjured from the incident.
The ATV was crushed between the Pathfinder and a tree, the CHP reported.
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the collision.
