Investigators continue to look into what caused a 30-car train derailment Saturday night in Hughson.

The train derailment happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Hatch Road and Santa Fe Avenue and resulted in a number of overturned boxcars along the railroad.

There were no injuries reported and there were no hazardous materials being hauled by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.

A powder was spilt on the road, but was a non toxic substance, according to authorities.

The train was traveling from Barstow to Stockton.

Heavy equipment was brought in to lift the boxcars and railway crews were working to repair and/or replace signal equipment damaged in the derailment.

Road closures are in place for the area and could continue for a few days. Amtrak service, which uses the railroad, will be using chartered buses from Merced to Stockton.
