The generational gap between most fathers and sons usually translates into widely divergent musical tastes. But Carlos Yamzon, 57, and his son Marlon Yamzon, 28, have found a happy middle ground in the likes of The Beatles, Journey, Jimi Hendrix, and Fleetwood Mac and have turned that shared enthusiasm into the backbone of The MCW Band.

The father and son formed the band seven years ago and have been growing their fan base ever since. They’ve played at several Modesto venues and have started a Saturday rotation at Turlock’s Vintage Lounge and Piano Bar.

The three piece band features Marlon Yamzon on guitar and lead vocals, Carlos Yamzon on bass and vocals, and Tony Montoya on drums. Their repertoire of cover songs hits rock, blues, R&B, reggae and just about everything else in between, Carlos Yamzon says.

“My son brings in the younger influence and I, well I don’t want to say older, but I bring in my influence,” Carlos Yamzon said. “There are a couple of generations in there, but it all works.”

The MCW Band will be at the Vintage Lounge and Piano Bar from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Guests can call ahead to reserve a table at 668-4680.
