Albert “Al” Morais, 76, of Hilmar passed away at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock on Dec. 1. Al was born in Gustine to Serafin and Maria Morais in 1934. He was raised in Crows Landing and graduated from Orestimba High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Al married Irene Gouveia in 1957, and they moved to Hilmar in 1958. They lived in Hilmar since that time. Al was a dairyman his entire career. He loved to cook and barbecue. Al cooked and barbecued for many events in Hilmar. He was a 4-H leader (sheep) and Oakland Raiders fan. Al was a member of the Hilmar/Irwin/Stevinson Lion’s Club, Hilmar/Stevinson Ag Boosters, and he attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was Hilmar Citizen of the Year.

Al is survived by his wife, Irene Morais of Hilmar; children, Dennis Morais, DeeAnn Morais and Doreen (Brian) Snyder, all of Hilmar; siblings, Joe Morais, Elexon Gomes, Emily Ventura, Irma Mattos and Serafin Morais, Jr.; and grandchild, Melinda (Presley) Baggett. Al was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Tony Morais and Mary Cotta; and grandchild, Brianne Snyder.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Allen Mortuary. A Rosary and Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at North Hilmar Cemetery.
