Antonia Custer
Antonia “Toni” V. Custer was born and raised in Turlock. Toni passed away quietly and peacefully on April 24, 2010, at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.
She married the love of her life, Jim Custer, on May 6, 1963. Toni was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Toni and Jim moved to the Bay Area for over 20 years. During this time, Toni held a management position in the billing department for Stanford University, Stanford Hospital and San Jose Medical Center.
Toni and Jim returned to Turlock in 1990, where she became actively involved in numerous clubs. Toni was president of Eldora Parlor #248 for the Native Daughters of the Golden West in Turlock, secretary for the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 88, Turlock, life member and treasurer for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 5059, Turlock, and an active supporter of Jobs Daughters Bethel 81, her granddaughter’s youth group. Her favorite motto to tell the kids was “Get a good education when you’re young and you can change the world.”
Toni was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Schmall; brother, Arthur Schmall Jr.; and sister, Ramona Schmall Parker. 
Toni is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jim Custer; daughters, Lisa M. Eddy and Lori A. Custer; son-in-law, Tom Eddy; grandson, Kyle Villegas; granddaughter, Victoria L. Eddy; mother, Adela Galvan Schmall; brothers, George Schmall and Paul Schmall; sisters, Joanna Schmall Agnew and Susan Schmall Coslett; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1 at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Rd.  A reception will follow at the VFW Post 1405, E. Linwood Ave., Turlock.
