Antonio Gomez Aguiniga Tony
Apr. 1922 ~ Dec. 2013

Tony was born in Rawlins, Wyoming to Benito and Refugio Aguiniga in 1922.  While still an infant, he moved with his family to their native country of Ziquitaro, Michoacan, Mexico. When Tony was a young man of 17 years, he returned to the United States, coming to reside in Turlock, CA.  At the age of 21, he married his loving wife, Angelita.  After serving in the Army during World War II, he was honorably discharged and came back to Turlock where he began to work in agriculture.   Later, Tony made his living with Patchett’s Bus and Transportation in Newman, CA until 1972.  He was blessed by nature and by trade to be a wonder with his hands.  During his lifetime, he developed his gift as an upholsterer, a carpenter and all around builder.  Through the years, Tony’s love would build a home in Turlock for his entire family.  This home, constructed from a three room house and built with his own hands was the sanctuary for his family throughout the years.  One of  Tony’s greatest passions was gardening; he loved exhibiting his garden creations to family and friends at any opportunity.  Tony was a very social person striking conversations and making friends with almost everyone in the neighborhood. He loved his visitors, often taking them on tours of his garden so they might taste his experiments growing from newly grafted fruit trees.  Tony’s friends remember his smile, his stories and his jokes as he strolled on his daily walks through the neighborhood.
He is survived by his loving wife Angelita of 67 years; his 10 children, Benny Aguiniga of Turlock, Tony Aguiniga Jr. of Denair, Delores Aguiniga of Fresno, Angie Fowler of Turlock, Gloria Aguiniga-McGuire of Turlock, Isabelle Aguiniga of Elk Grove, Manuel J.
