Barbara Alvares, 65, of Hilmar, passed away at her home after a long illness.

Barbara was born in Newman to Joe and Tillie Santos.  She was raised in Stevinson and attended Hilmar schools, graduating from Hilmar High.  She married John Alvares on Oct. 11, 1975 and settled in Hilmar where she lived for the last 35 years.

She worked for Dairyland Market in Hilmar as well as Medic Alert in Turlock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Tillie Santos.

She is survived by her husband, John Alvares; children, Clarence Rodrigues, Catherine Rodrigues, Leann Craven and Lonnie Alvares.  She also leaves her grandchildren, Justin and Kyle Rodrigues, Barbara and Richard Folks, Shealyn and Kadence Craven, and one on the way.

A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., in Turlock. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 8471 Cypress Ave., Hilmar.  Entombment will follow the Mass at the Sunset Mausoleum at Turlock Memorial Park.
