A celebration of life for Bob Hernandez, 74, will be held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Monte Vista Chapel. He died peacefully at home.
Bob was born in Hershey, Neb. to the late Manuel and Victoria Hernandez. The family moved to McFarlane, Calif. to be with relatives. Bob started first grade in Crows Landing, Calif. He moved to Turlock in grade 10 and attended Turlock High School. He participated in basketball, track and was the quarterback of the undefeated varsity Bulldog football team. Bob graduated and joined the Navy reserves. He married Arlene Hernandez in 1953, and was drafted into the Navy that same year.
Bob returned to Turlock to raise his family and start his career. Bob was a State Farm agent for 45 years, a Sunday school teacher at New Life Center, a Turlock High School board member for two terms, a member of Monte Vista Chapel where he served as an elder, and the founder of the Monte Vista hospitality team, where all were welcome for a warm handshake and a cup of his favorite mocha. He was also the treasurer for the Turlock chaplain services. Bob was always looking for ways to help others.
Bob was a family man as well as an avid sports enthusiast and made sure to attend all of his sons’ and granddaughters’ sporting events.
Bob is survived by wife, Arlene; and sons, Dirk (Stephanie) and Dee (Pam) both of Turlock. Bob was one of eight siblings and is survived by brothers, Pete Hernandez of Los Banos, Reuben Hernandez of Hilmar, Joe Hernandez of Hayward; and sisters, Lucia Atkinson of Hawaii and Jeannie Morris of Chula Vista. He is also survived by granddaughters, Heather Hernandez, Rachelle Hernandez, Erica Hernandez, Hilary Hernandez and Hailee Hernandez.
Bob was preceded in death by brother, Manuel Hernandez; and sister, Mary Prien.
