Turlock

Delbert “Del” Reed was born in 1919 in Farris, Okla. Delbert had 9 sisters and 1 brother. Delbert and his wife Alpha came to California around 1936. Times were hard. Together they worked, struggled and saved until the day came when instead of working for the landowners they were the landowners. Del and Alpha grew potatoes, cotton, peaches, grapes, walnut and almonds. Del always treated the men and the women who worked in his fields as if they were family, the way he would have liked to be treated. He always paid a fair day’s wage but expected a fair day’s work. During these years, he was active with the Youth for Christ, First Baptist Church, Missionary Gospel Fellowship and 4-H. Del was a faithful follower of Christ. He never missed a church service if he was able to attend. He and Johnnie helped for a while with the MAP program which helps rebuild churches.
Del and Alpha have two surviving children, Barbara Spencer of Rockland, and Larry Reed of Turlock. He was preceded in death by Alpha in 1973. Del is survived by 8 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family.
Del is also survived by his second wife, Johnnie Lee, who he married in 1974. Johnnie has three children, Debbie Gray who lives in Kentucky, Owen Lee of Nevada, and Virginia Dallo of Nevada.
