Emma Maria Smith, 97, of Turlock, has gone home to be with her Lord. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13 at Allen Mortuary. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, also at Allen Mortuary.
Emma was born in Hampton, Neb. on Nov. 20, 1912. After graduation, she taught in a one-room school for five years. In 1937, she married Edwin H. Smith and shortly after they ventured out to California. With separate jobs, they worked hard and later started their own dairy. Emma was an active part in making the dairy work smoothly. She would go out and help milk cows or haul hay and then go in and cook dinner.
Emma was an active member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church, now known as The Light of Christ. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years.  
She is survived by her son, Roger Smith and his wife, Pat; daughter-in-law, Beverly Smith; grandchildren, she meant so much to, Brenda Bunnell, Barbara Watkins, Rick Smith, Debbie Zylstra and Sherry Phillips; and seven great grandchildren. She will be especially missed by two of her great grandchildren, Vicky and Scott Zylstra, who spent countless hours with her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; and son, Herbert.
