Esther Johnson passed away on Sept 5,2016 at Casa  de Modesto, a caring and loving community.  She was born in Jasper MN  Feb 20, 1912 to Frederick and Carrie Solsaa Lee.  Esther graduated from Sioux Valley School of Nursing in Sioux Falls S.D. in 1934.  She then moved to Stockton CA and started work at Dameron Hospital.  She joined the Army Nurses Corp in 1943 and was stationed in London England for two years.  Esther returned to Stockton and continued working until she married Erland (Val) Johnson and moved to Modesto.  They were married for 49 years.  

Esther was a Nurse at Scenic General Hospital until she retired at age 62.  Esther and Val enjoyed trailering, card playing, church activities and spending time with family.  Following Val’s death Esther moved to Casa De Modesto where she lived for 16 years and was the oldest resident at the age of 104.

She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, baking, playing pinochle and being in Bible Study.  She loved the Lord and was active at Emanuel Lutheran Church for many years.  Esther was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Esther is survived by four children: Gary (Conny), Ron, Carol DeVe (Wally) and Barbara Crawford (Rich). Grandchildren:  Todd (Louanne), Bradley, and Emily Johnson ,Josh Clements, Jillian Bowerman (Randy),  Paul DeVe, Kat Moudy (Steele), R.G., Zac Crawford.  One great granddaughter and 3 great great grandchildren.   Esther was preceded in death by sister, Pearl Euning, and brothers: Lawrence, Sophus and Kenneth Lee.  

A memorial service will be held at Casa De Modesto activity center on Saturday, Sept 24, at 2:00 P.M.  Remembrances can be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church or to Casa De Modesto. Please leave your memories at www.AllenMortuary.com
