Helen Starn

"Louise" passed away quietly Sunday September 4 at Brandel Manor in Turlock. She was born in Boyd Kentucky but moved to the Turlock-Hughson area with her family as a young child.

She met Rodney her freshman year of high school. They married in October of 1944. Rod and Louise celebrated their 50th anniversary with friends and family in 1994. Rod preceded Louise in death in 2002 but she insisted on receiving a card every October to celebrate their anniversary.

Louise is survived by her sons David Rodney Starn of Turlock and Phillip Wayne Starn of Hughson. She is also survived by her daughter Joyce Louise Reed of Turlock and one brother, Raymond Stevens, of Texas.

Louise leaves behind nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She spent many years in loyal service at the Hughson First Baptist Church where she and Rodney worshiped their entire married life. She loved to read, hike in Yosemite, swim at Santa Cruz, cook, garden, and keep up on the lives of her children and grandchildren.

She fought Parkinson's disease for the last fifteen years of her life. Finally when she could fight no longer she simply went to sleep last Sunday and made her way to heaven.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5pm on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd. Turlock.

A praise service will be held at the Hughson First Baptist Church, 2218 6th St. Hughson on Friday Sept 9, 2011 at 11:30am. Don Slaven, longtime pastor and friend will officiate. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park. Any donations to honor Louise can be made to the First Baptist Church of Hughson.
