Inez Butler

Inez Butler, 98, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Covenant Living of Turlock. Born Vera Inez Ratcliff in Turlock, CA on March 10, 1925, she and her 5 siblings grew up on their parents’, Enos and Sarah Ratcliff’s farm in Denair, CA. Inez attended Pasadena Nazarene College and Modesto Junior College. In 1953 she married Jack Butler. She supported him while he finished his engineering degree. His work took them to Florida where their daughter JoLynne was born and they lived for 8 years. Eventually Jack’s work took them to southern California where they lived for 22 years. They retired in Turlock, CA in 1998.

Inez is survived by her sister, Arlene Kugler of Turlock, CA, and her brother, Gilbert Ratcliff of Long View, WA. She is also survived by family in Michigan: her daughter and son-in-law, JoLynne and Stan Nagayama and twin granddaughters, Resa Nagayama and Melia (and Caleb) Stagayama, and great granddaughter, Masako Stagayama. Inez was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers, Herbert Ratcliff of Elk Grove, Burl Ratcliff of Coeur d’ Alene, ID, and Glenn Ratcliff of Redding, CA.

Inez had a deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and she loved her precious church family at Connecting Point Church of the Nazarene in Denair, CA, where her parents were founding members in 1933. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. She was known for her warm smile and loving concern for others.

A memorial service will be held at Connecting Point Church of the Nazarene in Denair on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 3pm.
