Jayne Hougland, 94, passed away on July 7 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House. She formerly lived in Turlock until her recent move to the Samaritan Village in Hughson. Jayne was born Jan. 28, 1916 in Glasgow, Mont. to Melville and Bertha Walker. She graduated from high school in Montana and went on to graduate from the University of Montana with a BA in Fine Arts. Her hobbies included water color painting, playing bridge and reading. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Turlock, P.E.O., the Red Hat Society, and a volunteer at Emanuel Hospital. Jayne married George Louis Hougland in 1942, just before he went off to serve in the Navy during World War II. After the war, they moved to Altadena in Southern California.  In 1950, the family relocated first to Modesto, and then settled in Turlock. Jayne’s occupation was a pre-school teacher in the Turlock Head Start Program.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry (Diane) Hougland of Oakdale and Dale (Cindy) Hougland of Florence, SC; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Jayne was preceded in death by her husband, George Louis Hougland; and son, Alan Louis Hougland.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 12 at Samaritan Village, 7700 Fox Rd., in Hughson.
