JD Theis of Turlock passed away Friday, July 20, 2021, at the age of 93. JD was born in Coalgate, Oklahoma on December 3, 1927, to Alvin August Theis and Nellie Bates Theis.

JD was no stranger to hard work. He grew up on a farm where most years starting school in the fall was delayed until all the crops were in.

JD’s family moved to California when he was 10. After living in Tipton for a time, the Theis family moved to Turlock, and it has remained the family’s home base.

JD enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 17 and served for the duration of World War II on the USS Saratoga.

He married the love of his life, Helen June Adams, in Turlock on July 16, 1948. Together they had three children – Jimmy (Jim) Lane, Teresa (Teri) Dee, and Joseph (Joe) Craig.

On November 2, 1948, JD began his 41-year working career with Armour Foods and ConAgra Foods. He was the Sales Manager and retired in 1990.

After retiring, he and June traveled extensively both abroad and to visit their children. There were many family trips.

JD was an enthusiastic sports fan being most loyal to the San Francisco 49’ers and the San Francisco Giants.

He was an avid golfer for many years. Most importantly, JD was the consummate family man and his home served as the gathering place for family.

JD will always be remembered for his ready smile and unfailing good humor.

JD is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen June; siblings Elliot Theis and James Theis; and daughter-in-law, Esther Theis. He is survived by his children, Jim Theis, Teri (Andy) Polumsky and Joe (Sheri) Theis; grandchildren Marcus Theis, Matt (Amanda) Theis, and Mary-Margaret (Chris) Woodrum; and great grandchildren Hunter and Abigail Woodrum, Betsy and Ben Theis, and Avery June Theis.
