John Kregness, 81, of Turlock, passed away at Doctors’ Medical Center in Modesto on Dec. 28, 2009.
John was born in Roundup, Mont. and moved to California as a young child. He attended schools in Modesto and Turlock. He graduated from Turlock High School in 1946. John served in the National Guard for eight years. In October of 1951, he married Beverly Dickey. Together they moved to Pasadena, Calif. where he began work as a building inspector. Later he served as City of Turlock Building Inspector for 20 years. An accomplished builder, John acquired a contractor’s license and later went on to the Housing Authority of the County of Merced where he served as a project manager.
John also loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Out-of-Bounders RV Club and the Turlock Moose Lodge. He was a fun-loving family man and will be sorely missed by all of them.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly Kregness; son, John “Kreg” (Cristy) Kregness of Turlock; daughters, Karen (Rick) Bailey of Salida and Tammy (Jack) Keener of Turlock; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
