Joe was born in Oakdale and grew up on the West Side (Newman, Gustine and Stevinson).  He served in the Navy during WWII, allowing him the privilege of seeing the flag raised on Iwo Jima.  He married Loreta (Rita) Lowe in 1947 and raised four children while a mechanic for Nutcher’s Tractor, Leduc Ford and Tri Valley Growers.  In 1972, in addition to his mechanic duties at TVG, Joe began farming walnuts in Gustine, in 1999 Joe sold the walnut ranch and moved to Turlock to enjoy complete retirement.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Adelaide Freitas.  Joe is survived by his wife, Loreta (Rita) Freitas, his children LaVawn (Thomas) Burnette, LaVern Walter, Vernon (Beverly) Freitas and Katherine (Donald) Facha as well as 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5pm - 7pm on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Allen Mortuary.

A private graveside will be held at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
