Joseph “Joe” A. Jorge

Joe Jorge, 91, was born in Stevinson, CA. He passed away at his home in Gardnerville, NV.

Joe moved with his family to Turlock in 1932 and attended Roselawn grammar school. He graduated from Turlock High School in 1948. While attending MJC, the Korean War started and he joined the U. S. Navy, finishing his education there. He spent four years as an airplane mechanic on aircraft carriers, which included his service on one of the first carriers to handle jets. After his discharge, he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for several businesses, including George Kapor and Frank Souza. He was also a mechanic for Paul Snider’s racing team.

Joe was an avid bowler, which is how he met his wife, Toni. In retirement he as an avid vegetable gardener, growing the best red onions, sweet corn and tomatoes. He also enjoyed crafts, building doll furniture and birdhouses.

Mr. Jorge was preceded in death by his wife, Toni, his parents, Joseph F. and Marie Jorge, and two nephews, Chris and Randy Larson.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Covey, sisters Marie Larson Babbitt and Jeri Green Onto, brother Ron Jorge, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, at Turlock Memorial Park.
