Katherine Freitas passed away on April 8, 2023 in Aptos, Ca. She was 74 years old.  She was born on January 19, 1948 in Lodi, Ca. Katherine (Kathy or Kat; as friends would call her) attended Washington Elementary School, Lodi High, Encino High in Sacramento, Ca, and Delta College in Stockton, Ca. She was a celebrated Elementary School Teacher at the Turlock Unified School District and at Julien Elementary for more than 25 years, where she left behind many great friends and was an amazing influence on the lives of so many children and families. Kathy loved her career and all her wonderful friends she made. Kathy enjoyed creating beautiful handmade knits and ornaments for friends and family. She was the artist in the family, influenced by her Grandmother Pebble. Each year she would have a new creation for all of her family members to enjoy. Simple words cannot describe her vibrance, creativity, and the incredible sense of humor she possessed. Katherine published a book while she was a 4th grade teacher at Julien Elementary called Louisa’s Opportunity, a tale of actual events from her ancestors in the Mother Lode in the 1800’s.

Katherine is preceded in death by her parents Howard Costa of Lodi, Ca and Marie Alma Coe of Modesto, Ca. She is survived by her loving husband Randall Freitas, sons; Andrew and William Reuscher, along with her grandchildren; Adrina (Aryn) and Alex Reuscher, her step-children; Shannon Blair, Brian Freitas, step-grandchildren; Gabriel and Logan Blairand, sister Mary Angela Amarante, and brother Dustin Costa. A celebration of Katherine’s life will be held in the near future. For more information, feel free to email the family directly at macostasc@gmail.com. A prayer mass will be held for Katherine on May 7th, 2023 at 8:15 am at Holy Eucharist Church. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
