After 93 years, Kathleen “Mae” Landess passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 27, 2016. She has left behind two loving and devoted daughters, Kathy and Cindy, and four grandchildren, Mike, Kyle, Katie and Christie. Born in Bison, Kansas on May 2, 1923 to Philip and Magdalena Kaiser, Mae lived the most modern of lives. She attended business school which led to a career as a legal secretary in Denver, Colorado. She traveled the United States and Europe with her Air Force husband, Colonel Malcolm “Mac” Landess, before retiring to Modesto, California. The most consummate of Air Force wives, Mae was a leader of the Officers’ Wives’ Club in addition to being an excellent bowler, fanatic of both baseball and tennis, legendary baker and gardener, puzzle-completer-extraordinaire, needlepoint aficionado, and the best scrambled-egg-maker on the planet. She contributed to her community as a volunteer at the Hospice Thrift Shop in Modesto and as a long-time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Turlock. Needless to say, Mae was an amazing mother to her children and role model to the many generations her long life spanned. A graveside ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia where she will be interred beside her husband, Mac. Mae was predeceased by her husband, brother and sisters. Without a doubt, she joins them in watching over us all from heaven.
