Mary was born in Columbus, Ind. to parents Harry and Dorothy Vogt in 1934. She attended Lutheran schools as a child. In 1951, she married Vern Purtlebaugh and they had two children, Vern and Darlene. Mary and Vern divorced and she later married Bill Ruff in Indiana. They were married for 56 years. She enjoyed dancing and taking care of her home.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; children, Darlene Ruff of Hilmar, Lois (Fernie) Rodriguez of Fresno and Rebecca (Kirk) Machado of Hilmar; brother , Kenneth Vogt of Indiana; grandchildren, Paul (Carol) Ruff, Christopher (Amy) Ruff, Troy (Heather) Ruff, Fernando Rodriguez, Rachel (Gabe) Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez, Gabriel Rodriguez, Sara Machado, Gillian (Jeremy) Koehn and Damian Machado; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, Vern Ruff and Cecil J. Ruff.
Viewing will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 12 at Allen Mortuary. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13 at Hilmar Covenant Church. Burial will be private.
