Mary Lynne Metcalf Aubert died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, July 30, 2016 in New Rochelle, New York.

Shortly after her birth in New York City, Mary Lynne’s parents, Harry and Deane Metcalf, moved the family to Redwood City, California.  It was there that she attended grammar school and high school.  Mary Lynne later earned a BS in Nursing in 1958 from the University of San Francisco, graduating among the very first class of women ever to be admitted to that institution.

In 1961 Mary Lynne moved with her former husband and the father of her children, Edward Aubert, to Turlock, California.  During her many years in Turlock, Mary Lynne raised three children, served on the local school board, and worked as a nurse specializing in public health, family planning, and in-home care.  She also wrote poetry and volunteered for local charitable organizations.  Throughout her life she held a deep commitment to social justice.

Mary Lynne was a proud member of AA for many years.  She also faced multiple sclerosis, breast cancer, and mental illness, each with her own unique combination of humor, quiet courage, and fierce determination.

Mary Lynne is survived by her children Lynne Aubert of Danbury, CT, Anne Snyder (Jon) of Turlock, and John Aubert (Nancy) of Davis, CA; her sisters Megan Boyle (Llewellyn) and Michele Bartholomew (Michael), both of Turlock; her grandchildren Sarah and Eric Snyder and Jennie and Nora Aubert; and three nieces and three nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Darcy Wright, and her dear companion Harvey Kletzkey.

A memorial service will be held at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock on Saturday September 17th, 2016 at 11:00am in the Gemperle Gallery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary Lynne’s memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (http://www.nami.org/Get-Involved/Donate).
