Michael J. Wigt, 24, passed away suddenly and tragically on June 14, 2011. He was born in Modesto to John Wigt and Carlene (Johnson) Wigt on Jan. 12, 1987. Michael had two brothers, John and Samuel.

Michael started on his career path right out of high school by attending Northwest Lineman College. Upon graduation, both Michael and John became linemen. Michael became employed by the Turlock Irrigation District and made life-long friendships with his crew mates. He also served as a 3rd generation fire fighter with the Westport Fire Department.

Michael enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding quads and motorcycles. He entered his truck in pulling contests and won many awards.

Michael will be remembered as having a very close relationship with his family, and especially his older brother John and his wife, Maria. He leaves behind his mother and father; his grandmothers, Gladys Johnson and Esther (Folleta) Wigt; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Our family will always remember Michael as a respectful, thoughtful and hardworking young man. Michael had the respect of his friends, crew mates, and especially his family. Michael loved God and we hope to see him someday.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today at Turlock Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
