Fern Swanson, 90, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 in Turlock, California following a long illness. She was born and grew up on a farm west of Turlock. She attended Washington Grammar School, Turlock High School, and Modesto Junior College. She worked side by side with her husband, Elwood Swanson, in the early days of establishing what would later become the Swanson Farms/Associated Feed family of companies. They had three children: Linda Bunney- Sarhad (Ronald Sarhad) of Turlock, Richard (Andrea) Swanson of Turlock, and Susan (Lee) Anderson of Denver, Colorado. She devoted her life to her home and family and to serving God in the needs of others. In the 1980s she was named Soroptimist Woman of the Year in recognition of her compassionate service to other people. She leaves eight grandchildren: Matt (Maria), Mark, Michael (Ansley) Swanson; Nathan (Janet) and John (Christina) Bunney; Jonathan Sarhad; Max (Jessica) and Anna Anderson. She also leaves ten great-grandchildren, a brother, John Lindskoog, and many beloved family members and friends. Memorial gifts can be made to Turlock Covenant Church, 316 S. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 11, at Turlock Memorial Park, with funeral services at 11a.m., Saturday, February 11 at Turlock Covenant Church, 316 S.
