Robert Dean Rider passed away at home at the age of 84. He was born and spent his childhood in Durango, Colorado and was involved in many school activities. In 4th grade, he was introduced to the trumpet. This would be the start of a lifetime of music making and a career teaching music, mostly in Millbrae Elementary School District.

Bob earned his degree in music education at University of Colorado, Boulder. It was there, in a music history class, that he met the love of his life, Nancy. They were married in 1952. The family grew over time to include five children, Rob Rider (Norma), Lynn Posluch (Dave), Stephanie Martinez, Dave Rider (Diana) and Steve Rider (Allison). Bob took on an additional job at Macy’s, working there for many years. Upon retirement from teaching, he and Nancy moved to Turlock to be closer to family. They quickly made many friends by becoming very involved in First Presbyterian Church of Turlock. They joined the church choir. Bob served on the Session for six years and ran a fundraising SCRIP program to help send youth to church camp. He and Nancy both loved to sing, so they joined the C.S.U.S. Concert Chorale and the Modesto Symphony Orchestra Chorus, which allowed them to make beautiful music, travel and meet some wonderful people. He became a member of the Turlock Community Concert Association Board and served as treasurer for a few years. Bob is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Nancy, and his parents, Robert and Coralie Rider. He is survived by one sister, Pam Meares, his five children and many extended family.

All his family loved and respected Bob for his kindness, loving heart, and quiet wisdom. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on October 28th at First Presbyterian Church of Turlock. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Bob’s memory to First Presbyterian Church, 2619 Berkeley Avenue, Turlock, CA, 95382. Services entrusted to Turlock Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
