Shamus passed away at a young 36 years old on the afternoon of July 4th at Doctor’s Medical Center. He was the beloved son of Judy and Tom Byrne, Modesto and much loved brother of Sean Byrne (and his wife Rosie). Shamus was the cherished father of six year old Sha J (Shamus Michael Jr.) and is also dearly loved by Sha J’s mom, Vanessa Castillo.  Shamus was a graduate of California State University-Stanislaus. Shamus worked as an intern, general assignment reporter and Sports Editor at the Turlock Journal.   He enjoyed his games of golf, playing and watching basketball, camping and fishing for trout in Sierra mountain streams.  But most of all he was an avid, lifetime Atlanta Braves fan. He was teased about not only having a BA but also an “ESPN” degree. Private family burial has taken place at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church (709 J Street) on Friday, August 16th at 10 am.
