Thomas (Tom) William Porter died after a sudden illness on Thursday morning, November 2nd, 2017 at the age of 81 in Modesto.  He was born in Trafton WA on March 30, 1936 to James and Iris Porter.  He was a resident of Turlock and Hughson for the past 43 years, having also lived in Stockton, CA during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.

The youngest of four siblings, Tom grew up in Los Angeles, Anchorage Alaska, Moscow Idaho and San Jose CA, where he graduated from James Lick High School. He then joined the U.S. Navy where he served as an aircraft mechanic at Barber’s Point in Honolulu, Hawaii and Moffett Field in San Jose. He married his surviving wife of 60 years, Norma, while in Honolulu in 1957. After his Navy service, he spent his entire civilian career employed as a Gas Serviceman for PG&E, retiring after 40 years of service.

In addition to his wife Norma, he is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law Tom Jr. and Susan Porter of Copperopolis, Greg and Karen Porter of Rescue and Darren and Tanya Porter of Turlock. He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Tom had a lifelong interest in airplanes. During his early retirement years, he volunteered his time at the Castle Air Museum helping rebuild legacy aircraft for public display.

He was always active in service to the Lord, most recently at Crossroads Church in Turlock, where his Memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17th at 10:00 a.m. A reception will immediately follow the service, also at Crossroads Church, during which a light lunch will be served.
