Joe Ryan keeps on dominating CCAA hitters. The three-time reigning CCAA pitcher of the week struck out 15 batters in a masterful performance Thursday afternoon.
The Warrior ace threw a complete game, six-hit shutout in Stanislaus State's 16-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino. Ryan did so without issuing a walk and threw 114 pitches. The 15 strikeouts are the most by a Warrior pitcher during the CCAA era.
Stanislaus State improved its record to 16-13 overall and 12-11 in league play and is now 9-3 in away games. CSUSB is 9-18, 9-12 CCAA.
In Ryan's previous start last Friday, the Warriors scored 18 runs against Cal State L.A. Thursday night, he got 16 runs from the lineup, with every starter collecting at least a hit. In all, the Warriors pounded out 15 hits with four homers and two doubles.
Austin Fitzpatrick delivered the biggest blow — a grand slam in the fourth inning as part of the team's five-run out-bust. Jack Large homered for the sixth time this season (a three-run shot in the sixth). Then Nikko Delgado and Michael Wyatt went back-to-back in the eighth inning.
But the one run in the second scored by Ethan Utler from a Brandon De La Guardia single would have been all Ryan needed.
After a leadoff single, Ryan got a double play and retired 12 of the next 13 batters before Mando Rodriguez double in the fifth. Ryan would then sit 14 of the final 17 Coyotes in order to finish the game. After a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth, Ryan put an exclamation mark to his start by striking out the side.
Nine of his strikeouts came in the final four innings of the game.
It was the third time, and the second consecutive start, Ryan struck out 10 or more batters in a game. He had also recorded nine strikeouts in four other occasions.
Ryan improved to 6-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.73. He now has 81 strikeouts in 62.1 innings. Opponents are batting .189 against him.
Braeden OkiJarrett Veiga and Fitzpatrick each had two hits and Large drove in a total of three runs. Vinny Margiotta also singled in two runs in the third inning.

Stan State, Western Washington battle to twinbill split

Just two days after playing in the biggest Division II softball tournament in the West, the Stanislaus State and Western Washington softball teams battled in a pair of non-conference games — to a hard-fought split.
The Warriors won game one 5-3 in a game that featured 22 hits and 16 runners left on base. In the nightcap, Western Washington held the edge in the pitching duel to win 3-2 in extra innings.
Stanislaus State will carry its 18-14 overall record into another CCAA series, beginning this Friday, at home against Cal State San Marcos.
On Tuesday, the Warriors got all over WWU starter Shearyna Labasan in the first inning. Stan State plated three runs while looking like it was going to blow the game away. However, Labasan settled down and managed to leave baserunners on base to keep the game close.
For Stan State, the first five batters did damage, going 8-for-19. In fact the top three batters were 6-for-12. Anyssa Garvin got the win in the circle.
In the nightcap, WWU starter Anna Kasner was dominant early, striking out 10 Warriors in five innings before finishing with 12 Ks in eight innings, out-dueling Karina Callazo. Callazo threw seven innings and gave up one unearned run on five hits.

WWU scored the first run with the runner reached on a fielding error. However, the Warriors got even with pinch runner Karmyn Rivera stealing two bases and tying the game on a wild pitch.
In the eighth, Rylie Wales drove in two runs with a double to give WWU a 3-1 lead. Stanislaus tried to get even again, scoring a run on a steal and over-throw. However, Kasner struckout the final two Warriors to end the game.
