Former Turlock girls golfer named an All-American
spencer heller
Sonoma State freshman and Turlock High graduate Spencer Heller has added to her impressive postseason award tally with an Honorable Mention All-America honor, it was announced by the National Golf Coaches Association recently.
She becomes just the third Sonoma State student-athlete to earn All-America honors as a freshman.
The only other Sonoma State student-athletes to earn All-America honors as freshmen were track and field athlete Melissa Costa in 1996 and men's golfer Patrick Bauer two years ago.
Heller becomes the second All-American from the women's golf team in three years of existence, with Brittany Carrera earning the honor after last season.
Heller finished in the top 10 at 11 of her 13 competitions in the 2009-10 season. Highlights include individual medalist honors at the Pioneer Shootout and runner-up finishes at the Dominican Invitational and NCAA West Regional, as well as a 10th-place finish in the NCAA Division II Championship.
Sporting a cumulative record of 660-92 (golfers defeated-golfers defeated by) in tournaments this season, Heller broke Carrera's school record with a stroke average of 77.2.
She also tied the single-round record with a 69 at the Dominican Invitational.

Stanislaus golfers on exclusive lists
The Division II PING All-America Teams were announced by the GCAA earlier this week and Cal State Stanislaus golfers Brandon Taylor and Trevor Blair made the lists.
Taylor was a third-team selection, and Blair an honorable mention.
Both were also All-Region and All-CCAA selections earlier this month.
