Cal State Stanislaus remains undefeated this season in men's soccer as the Warriors defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 1-0, Friday night in front of 1,236 fans at Warrior Stadium.

Terry Gross provided the only scoring needed in the 52nd minute and the score held up for the Warriors.

The Warriors improved to 3-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State San Bernardino drops to 3-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.

"To get a shutout and held down San Bernardino was a job well done for our guys on the day; I thought our boys worked hard and stuck to the game plan," CSUS head coach
Dana Taylor said. "We knew we had to be patient over the course of the game, because they have so many attacking players."

In an evenly played match under the lights with most of the action between the two boxes at midfield, the Warriors broke through at 51:56 for the lone goal. After
Trevor Grimbleby sent in a nicely placed ball from midfield, Manny Avila knocked it to Gross for the finish.

"As we came out in the second half we had a few opportunities," Taylor added. "We were unlucky to not put the game away at 2-0."

Stanislaus goalkeeper
Javier Rosales came up with a number of spectacular saves, including one at point-blank range from DJ Vigil in the 79th minute.

"Javy did a great job in goal and anchoring the defense," Taylor said. "Defensively everybody took care of their job on the day."

Cal State San Bernardino played without its CCAA leading scorer Obi Agwu who was serving his one game suspension after receiving a red card last Sunday.

The 3-0-2 record is the best start for the Warriors men's soccer program during the CCAA era. The Warriors started 4-1 after five matches last year.

Cal State Stanislaus plays host next against Cal Poly Pomona at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Broncos lost to Chico State 3-0 in Chico Friday.
