Stanislaus teams make moves in polls

The Cal State Stanislaus men’s soccer and cross country teams forced some shuffling in their respective polls after strong performances last weekend.
The men’s soccer team moved up to No. 7 in the latest West Region poll by the National Soccer Coaches’ Association. It’s the third time in three weeks that the Warriors climbed up the rankings, thanks to wins over Humboldt State and Sonoma State on Sunday.
Last Tuesday, the Warriors were No. 9.
They still have a shot to make moves into the NCAA Championships Tournament next month, as the top four teams advance on.
After noteworthy performances at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships that saw three runners (Joey Nunes and Denali Foldager and Rubye Foldager) earn all-conference honors, both Stanislaus cross country teams made their debut in the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches’ Association polls.
The men are ranked No. 9 in the region, while the women are No. 10. The Warriors will compete in the NCAA West Region Championships in San Francisco on Nov. 7.

Warriors golf provide late surge
Not surprisingly, the Stanislaus men’s golfers made another late charge in the third and final round of the Bill Cullum Invitational on Tuesday — firing a 287, the day’s fifth-best score, to finish eighth in the team standings.
The tournament, which was held at Simi Valley’s Wood Ranch Golf Course, featured 13 Division I teams and a number of D-II teams.
Teddy Schrier had an outstanding day for the Warriors. He fired a 3-under 69 — the third best score of the day — to finish 11th overall with a 214 total in the two-day event. University of Pacific’s Alex Johnson was the medalist with a 207 total after an one-over 73 today.
The Warriors had the best finish for a non-Division I program, evident by totaling a 884 to finish in a three way tie for eight with Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Bakersfield.
Stanislaus’ J.T. Cockerill was 58th with a 226 total, Trevor Blair shot a 227 for 61st, Bryan Kiss was 66th with a 229 and Danny Hoff shot a 2-under today to finish with a 230 for 70th.
Stanislaus’s next match won’t be until Feb. 22 when the Warriors play in Bakersfield.
