Mud bog and lawn mower races ended motorsports action for the 2013 Stanislaus County Fair on Sunday. Local riders saw great success, taking home all first place finishes across five events: Stock, Super Stock, UTV, Stock Lawnmowers and Modified Lawnmowers.
Travis Olson, Jr. of Denair captured a first place finish in a tight finale in the Stock class of mud bog races. Rich Byron of Napa had the lead from the start, but in the closing inches, Olson prevailed in what was the closest stock race of the day.
“I am happy; I got to beat diesels with my little Jeep, little six cylinder, not running turbos or any chips just a stock Jeep with a different axle and lowered gears. Some guys said my truck was funny; I am glad I got to prove them wrong,” Olson said. “It’s a great win to get — a win everybody in my family helped.”
Also from Denair was Blake Bennett, who nabbed a first place finish in the competitive field class of Super Stock mud bogs.
Christopher Rossi of Ceres took home a first place finish in the UTV, but was one and done in the first round of the Super Stock class.
“I have done this for five years and it keeps getting better every year,” Rossi said. “I was mainly trying not to break anything this year and I didn’t, but there was a lot of anticipation.”
Aside from the fun in the mud races, fans were treated with unique vehicles like a lifted Corvette with big truck tires along with a lifted off-road drag-racer with bogger tires.
