Although the Turlock High tennis team didn’t advance to the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs on Tuesday afternoon, falling to River City College 6-3, Peter Wilson kept his personal winning streak alive.
Following up his thrilling three-set victory on Thursday over Downey’s Brady Black in the Central California Athletic League finals (his first league singles title) he defeated top ranked River City singles player Manav Patel 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Wilson, a senior who also plays basketball and competes in cross country, once again used his cardio to outlast his opponent, sending Patel in all directions and forcing desperate return shots to land long out of bounds. Like Wilson, Patel will return to the Sac-Joaquin Section singles tournament May 13-14 at the Johnson Racquetball Club in Roseville.
“That was a tough match. He’s a good player,” Wilson said of his opponent. “I knew he was getting tired, but we pulled it out. Good to get another win. We’ll try taking it to sections in a couple weeks.”
