Delhi High’s softball team is on to the quarterfinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI softball tournament after Thursday’s 13-2, first round playoff win over Woodland Christian High. The Hawks ravaged the Cardinals of the Central Valley California League with a one-two punch from the plate and pitcher’s mound as Briana Lopez and Alyssa Stockton applied a steady stream of pressure through the game’s five innings.

Lopez went four for four with five RBI as she led Delhi’s offensive charge. Bianca Nunez chipped in with two RBI while Cynthia Aguilera and Diamond Orozco earned a RBI each.

Stockton struck out 12 of the 19 batters she faced and allowed only three hits through all five innings.

Delhi scored four runs in the first inning and three runs in the third inning before Woodland Christian scored its first two runs in the top of the fifth inning. After scoring six more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hawks were declared the winners via mercy rule and had their tickets punched for Saturday’s quarterfinal game.
