Local athletes put in solid performances last week at the SJS Division IV/V Track Finals that were held at Modesto Junior College. Denair High, Turlock Christian High, and Hilmar high each brought athletes to the competition and experienced varying degrees of success. Hilmar walked away with the most success, however, finishing 12th as a team in the girls division and advancing five athletes to the finals of their respective events.

Hilmar’s Morgan McFaddin shined brighter than her teammates, qualifying for the finals of three separate events. McFaddin placed third in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, fourth in the triple jump with 35 feet, and fifth in the 400m race with a time of 1:03.79.

Bailee Rocha finished in eighth place in the girls pole vault with a vault of 8-06, Angelique Souza placed 10th in the girls high jump with a jump of 4-06, John Barros placed eighth in the boys long jump with a jump of 19-11, and Tyler Juncker finished 13th in the boys pole vault with a vault of 11 feet.

TC and Denair, on the other hand, each had one athlete qualify for the finals of their events. Denair’s Quentin Allen finished 18th in the boys 1600m race with a time of 4:58.04 and TC’s Rebekah Muller qualified for the girls 400m finals but did not compete due to personal commitments.

“She accomplished what she wanted to accomplish this season,” TC’s head coach Pam Franco said. “It was a long season and I’m proud of the way she competed.”
