Don't let the numbers fool you. Although Hilmar High has one of the smallest volleyball rosters in its league, it is a team to be reckoned with.

The 'Jackets took down the Hughson High Huskies in straight sets (25-7, 25-12 and 25-21) in their first Trans Valley League game on Thursday.

Emily Baptista had a huge day for the ‘Jackets with 15 kills. Senior Brittney Fielder had eight attempts and seven kills. Haylee Pearce did a great job running the offense as she topped out at 31 digs; and Valerie Ewing’s 15 aces helped secure the victory.

As a team, they only missed three serves and that is something the girls are always working on, said head coach Patti Harris.

The Yellowjackets (10-5 overall, 1-0 TVL) will travel to Modesto Christian on Tuesday with the game set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
