The Turlock High Bulldogs (5-0) walloped Franklin High of Stockton (0-5) 28-7 in non-league play Friday night to remain perfect for the 2010 season.

The Bulldogs got on the Yellowjackets early, forcing a three-and out Franklin possession following the opening kickoff. Immediately after the ensuing punt – on their first offensive play of the game – Turlock senior quarterback Kevin Kramer found senior running back Ricky Fuentes for a 52-yard touchdown pass.

On the next play, Turlock forced a Yellowjacket fumble and immediately launched a 45-yard touchdown drive, capped by a 12-yard pass from Kramer to Fuentes.

The second quarter looked much the same as the first, with Turlock advancing 44 yards in three plays before Fuentes ran in for a touchdown from 7 yards out. Shortly thereafter, the Bulldogs moved the ball 40 yards in two plays, capped by a 15-yard Kramer touchdown run.

With the score 28-0 at the half, Turlock sat their starters for the entirety of the second.  Fuentes finished with 5 carries for 82 yards and a rushing touchdown, plus 2 receptions for 64 yards and two touchdowns receiving, all in a single half. Kramer tallied 4 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown rushing, and went 3 for 6 passing for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Franklin did not score until the final quarter.

The Bulldogs will open Central California Conference play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday against the undefeated Buhach Colony Thunder (5-0) at Turlock High’s Joe Debely Stadium.

Pride continues winning streak

The Pitman Pride (4-1) won their fourth straight game Friday night, besting Davis High (0-5) 41-7 to close non-conference play.

Pitman’s offensive successes came on the heels of tough running halfbacks Andres Mendez, a sophomore, and Dominick Walker, a senior. Walker put in four touchdowns for the Pride.

Junior quarterback AJ Derr threw for another Pitman touchdown, and even the defense got in on the scoring when senior linebacker Kelley Ensey scored a pick-six touchdown for the Pride.

Coach Brandon Harris credited the Pride’s defense – and in particular the defensive line – for putting a stop to the hard-playing Spartans offense.

Pitman will take on Golden Valley (4-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Merced College to open Central California Conference play.

‘Jackets sting Huskies in TVL action

The Hilmar Yellowjackets (4-2, 2-0 TVL) remained unbeaten in the Trans-Valley League by defeating Hughson High (0-6, 0-2 TVL) 20-6.

Senior runningback Nate Azevedo was the star of the game for the Yellowjackets, scoring Hilmar’s first touchdown on a 2-yard run. Later, he would return a kickoff 93 yards for Hilmar’s second – and final – touchdown. Yellowjackets’ junior kicker Kurtis Bettencourt also knocked home two field goals.

Hilmar Coach Frank Marques credited Hughson with playing a good, tough game.

The Yellowjackets will continue Trans-Valley League play against Modesto Christian (1-5, 1-1 TVL) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Hilmar.

Le Grand downs Denair

The Denair High Coyotes (2-3, 1-1 SL) were shut out 0-39 by the Le Grand High Bulldogs (3-2, 2-0 SL) Friday night.

The Coyotes were stymied from start to finish by Le Grand’s swarming defense.

Senior wide receiver Trevor Werner finished the night with the most yards for Denair, reeling in six passes for 50 yards. Senior running back Jose Galvan was the leading rusher, with 26 yards. Junior quarterback Jim Atkinson finished 10 for 18, passing for 62 yards.

Denair will look to rebound in Southern League play against Ripon Christian (0-5, 0-2 SL) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at home.
