Trailing by 10 runs heading into the bottom of the third inning, Turlock High’s softball team made a mad dash to the finish line, nearly completing an improbable comeback before falling 17-13 in a Central California Athletic League contest against league-leading Enochs on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs drop to 1-2 in league play and 2-10 overall, while the Eagles improve to 3-0 and 6-3.
Turlock halved the deficit with five runs in the bottom of the third, but each time it got close, Enochs would counter to keep the ’Dogs at bay.
“We’re a very young team and we’ve been dealing with some injuries,” said assistant coach Ryan Maxwell.
Offensively for Turlock, Cadee Campbell was 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and four runs scored, while Rylee Murphy delivered a three-run homer, and Abby Maxwell hit a solo blast.
Rylie Bankson also was 4-for-5, while Jaysee Rubio and Brook de la Motte each contributed two hits.
The Bulldogs will see action again on Thursday when they travel to take on Modesto High in a 4 p.m. contest.
