After starting the year with a 5-0 record, Pitman High’s girls volleyball team has dropped two matches in a row.
After being swept by El Capitan (Merced) 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 on Tuesday, the Pride were downed 21-25, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, 15-3 on Thursday by defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 runner-up Ripon.
In the loss to Ripon, sophomore Maryn Hall had a staggering 27 kills, while teammate Kayliyah Williams had 14 kills, along with a team-high six blocks. Senior setter Danica Zamora finished with 46 assists.
In the loss to the Gauchos, Hall had nine kills and three ace serves, while Williams totaled six kills and 16 digs. Zamora finished with 21 assists.
The Pride was in action again on Friday, hosting Los Banos in a non-conference matchup.
Turlock outlasts Merced — The Bulldogs improved their overall record to 3-4 with a 25-19, 23-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-7 come-from-behind victory over the Bears on Tuesday.
Hilmar picks up a pair of victories — The Yellowjackets (11-5) overwhelmed Stone Ridge Christian 25-5, 25-12, 25-16 on Tuesday, then came back the following day to defeat Merced 25-23, 25-10, 22-25, 25-21.
Against the Bears, Finley Rosa and Alyssa Colston led the way with 17 kills apiece, Teygan Horstmeier had 24 digs, and setter Stella Pires had 44 assists. Against Stone Ridge, Colson led the way with nine kills, Emma Gomes had five ace serves, Horstmeier had 12 digs and Pires totaled 27 assists.
Hughson defeats Mariposa — The Huskies were trounced in the opening set 25-6, but bounced back to take the next three 25-20, 26-24, 25-19.
Abbigail Ramsey totaled 11 blocks, six kills, while teammate Julia Daniels 27 assists.
Denair wins a pair — The Coyotes defeated Patterson 25-13, 25-22, 25-18 on Tuesday, then topped Riverbank 25-11, 25-15, 23-25, 25-13 on Thursday.
Denair improves to 6-3 on the season and will play host to Stone Ridge Christian on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
TC falls to Delhi — The Eagles came out with a 25-22 win in the first set against Delhi, but dropped the next three, 25-20, 25-17, 25-14.
Turlock Christian falls to 3-5 with the setback, and gets ready to host Pacheco (Los Banos) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
