On Wednesday, four of the city's top high school athletes committed to playing at the next level when they signed their National Letter of Intent during ceremonies at Pitman High and Turlock High. At PHS, soccer standout Mya Sanchez signed with Oregon State University as just the third Pride athlete to be recruited by a PAC-12 school.
"Once I first visited Oregon State, I loved everything about it. The coaching staff is amazing and it's such a family atmosphere. Everything about it makes me so excited," said Sanchez. "Pitman athletics have been great, it's such a great environment. It's been a great experience and I'm going to miss it."
At THS, Bulldog Kylee Redman committed to the women's soccer program at the University of California, Davis. Redman is a school record holder in track and field in addition to her countless soccer accolades, and will take that speed onto the pitch for the Aggies.
THS baseball players Griffen Sotomayor and Kaden Petersen signed with Washington State University and the University of the Pacific, respectively, completing their dreams of playing college ball which began in their youth.
"There's not much that we taught these two young men other than coaching them hard...Everything else they got on their own as far as work ethic and character," THS head baseball coach Sean Gilbert said.
