Parents of Turlock Christian High School will get to meet the school's newly hired athletic director/head coach, as well as the new principal of the high school, in an official meet and greet set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Monte Vista Chapel Gym.

Jake Von Sherrer, who recently held a position in Florida, will become the newest member of the Eagles athletic family, and Steve Doerksen, a Turlock native, is set to be named the new administrator of the high school.

"It is pretty exciting stuff that we will get a guy with his resume. He seems to have a lot of experience to bring to the table, not just as a head coach but also to help with our athletic department," Turlock Christian boys basketball head coach Eddie Sai said about the new hiring.

The two new team leaders will join the staff on June 2.

Von Sherrer has 30 years of experience in education and athletic leadership, along with 14 years as a head football coach, and seven years coaching at the collegiate level.

He has a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Physical Education from Pacific University and a master's degree in Health Education from Lewis and Clark College.

He has been a featured speaker at numerous national conferences, including Association of Christian Schools International and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and has published articles in High School Today and Florida Athletic Directors Journal, among others.

Even more than his extensive list of accomplishments, coach of the year awards, and state athletic titles,

Von Sherrer is a leader. In a letter he and his wife Jan sent to all Turlock Christian parents, he shared his excitement about coming to Turlock Christian to build the sports program and mentor the students in their walk with Christ.

Turlock Christian High's new principal, Doerksen, is a local boy, born and raised in the Turlock area. He has over 12 years of experience in the field of education; four years as a teacher in special education, another four as an assistant principal and three years as principal of Denair High School.

Doerksen has a B.A. in Communicology from Azusa Pacific College along with a Special Education Credential and an Administration Credential.

He brings a wealth of experience with him to Turlock Christian Schools. He is already deeply connected to Turlock, with family and friends in the area.

Some of Doerksen's areas of expertise include accreditation and curriculum. He has already been working with the school on scheduling decisions for the upcoming year.
