Turlock and Pitman track and field had some standout moments throughout the 2022 season. After being able to compete in a regular season in the first time in two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Bulldogs and Pride came out of the gates competing again at a high level.
The Turlock High girls team took first in the Central California Athletic League while the boys took second. The girls team took second at the division two finals two weeks ago. With the results, the Bulldogs had 16 athletes qualified to compete at the Masters meet on May 20 and 21.
At the Masters, Turlock’s Kylee Redman grabbed fourth place in both the girls 100 and 200 meter sprints. The Bulldogs’ girls relay team made up of Olivia Walker, Zoe Lamur, Ava Torres and Ella Spaulding placed second in the 4x400 race.
There were a number of records broken.
Turlock’s Max McFarlene won a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championship in the boys Pole Vault whole Olivia Walker won one in the girls 400. Walker also broke the record for the girls 400 at the event. Kylee Redman set records in the 100 and 200 meter contests. The Bulldogs had four of the top times in the 300-meter hurdles, including Ella Spaulding who set the record.
“We see them day in and day out working, pushing and fighting for me,” said Turlock High Head Coach Bergann Hernandez. “You don’t always get to see the results of those efforts until we compete. And when you get to see them compete with so much confidence is so amazing to me.”
The Pitman boys had record breakers of their own this season as well.
Damian Garcia set the records for the 800 and 1600 meter this season. Joey Stout set the record for the 400 meter and came in second in the 100 and 200 meters. Efren Sanchez set the record in the 3200 meter and came in second in the 1600 meter.
With the results, the Pride finished first and the girls third in the CCAL this season. PHS also had athletes competing at the Masters meet.
