The Turlock High boys soccer team was dealt a tough loss against West High in Tracy on Tuesday with a final score of 2-1. The quarterfinal loss knocks Turlock out of the playoffs and advances West into the semifinals, where the Wolf Pack will face Jesuit High.
“It was a great game; we played really well and controlled most of the game,” Turlock coach Doug Sperry said. “It was even both ways. We had a lot of chances.”
The Bulldogs (19-4-4 overall) took advantage of their chances early on as Jose Aguilera scored in the 20th minute. The Bulldogs maintained their lead until the end of the first half when West received a questionable penalty kick and scored, tying it up as the two teams went into halftime.
Unfortunately, tough play by Aguilera and Diego Godinez could not earn Turlock the win as West scored its game winning goal off a header halfway through the second half.
“They were one of the better teams we’ve played.” Sperry said. “It just didn’t go our way and we didn’t finish.”
