The NASCAR Whelen All American Series returns to the Stockton 99 Speedway today to celebrate the racing career of one of the Speedway’s favorite sons with Johnny Brazil Night by Performance Electric.

The racing program will include the Western Late Models in Twin 50s, Super Stocks, Bombers, Legends of the Pacific, Vintage Super Modifieds and Powder Puff race. In addition, Brazil, of Manteca, will be driving one of his vintage race cars.

Brazil, who was nicknamed “the Manteca Missile,” was a racing fixture at Stockton and all of Northern California from the 1950s. Brazil won four Hardtop crowns and holds several track records, including the fastest lap around the quarter-mile paved oval — 11.899 seconds in a Super Modified in 1985. He also has the most career main-event victories in four divisions.

The 99 grandstands open at 4 p.m. with qualifying and green flag racing slated for 6 p.m.
