Three weeks ago “Lethal” Lewis Gonzalez scored an exciting TKO victory over Lamar Reed in his fourth professional Mixed Martial Arts bout, maintaining an undefeated record and a string of victories via stoppage. Instead of resting on his laurels, Gonzalez (4-0) will be competing in his fifth professional fight against Dan Price (5-3) tonight at the Sutter County Fairgrounds in Yuba City.
“I’m already in fighting mode, coming from that fight to this fight,” Gonzalez said. “I think I’ll be more comfortable in the cage than him since his last fight was almost a year ago.”
Price, a former wrestler for UC Davis, is currently riding a two fight win streak. His last two opponents had a combined record of 0-9, however, giving Gonzalez a high degree of confidence as he prepares to step into the cage once again. Even with his confidence, Gonzalez is careful not to underestimate his opponent.
“His main thing is to look for the takedown but I’m not too concerned about that,” Gonzalez said. “It’s a cage fight, so it’s important to remember that anything can happen.”
Gonzalez has maintained the training regime that prepared him for the Reed fight, training with Team Voodoo, Delhi Boxing Club and the Turlock Wrestling Club. His game plan includes neutralizing Price’s grappling with his own wrestling abilities in order to open up his striking game.
The fight, part of the West Coast Fighting Championship promotions, will begin at 7 p.m.
